Executive Council Report

Arizona APCO-NENA

June 18, 2010

 Annual Conference

The Annual Conference is in Houston July 31-Aug 4.  The Fist General Business meeting is Sunday, August 1.  There are major changes in the conference schedule this year, check it out on the conference website.

Quorum Resolutions

There will be two resolutions before the Quorum:

1)      Group membership – The Board discussed the tiered approach, and basing the size of group membership on population served, asking would it be better to base it on number of dispatch staff.  APCO staff is reworking the proposal to base it on staff numbers.

2)      Awards & Recognition Task Force Recommendations – These have mostly to do with qualifications for Senior and Life member designations.

Please attend the General Business sessions to vote on these issues.

 Call for Comments

The Call Centers Standards Committee is soliciting comments on revisions of two previously published Standards;

1)      PST  Response to Calls of Missing, Abducted or Sexually Exploited Children – comment dues July 12th

2)      Minimum Training Requirements for PST – comments due July 26th

Comments may be submitted on the APCO website at http://www.apcointl.org/new/commcenter911/ansi-activity.php.

2011 Western Regional

The Nevada Chapter has withdrawn from hosting the 2011 Western Regional.  CPRA has offered to host, as Nevada suggested.  CPRA polled the Western Region EC members.  I polled your Executive Board, and we agreed that the short time frame (March 2011) did not give us time to get a Regional Conference organized.  CPRA met yesterday, they were hoping to identify a venue at that meeting, but it will very likely be in the greater Los Angeles area.  The other chapters in the region were concerned that rather than letting us all know, Nevada solicited CPRA first.  Eight of the fourteen Western chapters supported CPRA taking the conference.

Regional Conference Manual

The Executive Board has asked for the Regional Conference Manual to be revised.  It is my belief that Regional Conferences are being examined closely by APCO Intl.  Other regions have had problems with attendance, etc.  The EC members from our region are strongly supportive of the West continuing to have a Regional Conference.  I nominated Sheila Blevins to be Arizona’s representative on this revision team.

Financial

The Association continues to be financially healthy.  The Finance & Budget Committee continues to provide a quarterly overview of the FY budget.
