Public Safety Dispatcher

This is a 40-hour/week position that is part of a 7x24 operation, including nights,
weekends and holidays.  Employment in this position is contingent upon the
successful completion of: (1) polygraph exam, (2) psychological evaluation,
and (3) extensive background investigation that includes disclosure of
applicant’s use of illegal drugs or controlled substances.  The position requires
working in a confined area and frequently working alone.
 

HOURLY RATE:  $14.32
(This is a non-exempt position as defined under
the Fair Labor Standards Act)

Experience, Education and Licensing:  Must have U.S. citizenship, minimum
of 18 years of age at time of application, no felony convictions or convicted of,
or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of
vehicles with a frequency within the past three years that indicates a disrespect for
traffic laws or a disregard for the safety of others.  High School Diploma or
General Equivalency Degree and successful completion of the Public Safety
Dispatcher Trainee program; or an equivalent combination of education and
experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such
as those listed below:

 

§         Receive, coordinate and disseminate emergency and non-emergency services and/or information inside the College and to outside agencies in support of a 7x24 certified police agency. 

§         Prioritize incoming calls and dispatch personnel and/or services as appropriate. 

§         Verify and input confidential information into a variety of law enforcement computer networks to ensure current, accurate records; adhere to applicable laws and regulations, regarding confidentiality. 

§         Monitor multi-frequency radio system while answering and screening incoming multi-line telephone calls in order to monitor and coordinate field unit activity.

§           Conduct periodic welfare checks. 

§         Operate computer terminal, monitor fire/security alarms, maintain computer logs and records. 

§         Access databases to respond to inquirers from a variety of sources. 

§         Monitor equipment, such as alarm systems, 24-hour recorder system, and dispatch equipment to ensure they are working properly. 

§         Perform official law enforcement and judicial support tasks such as data entry of police and various other reports, warrant entry and validation.
