NOTE: Appointments
to positions in the Police Department are subject to meeting
appropriate polygraph and background standards.
In addition, working irregular
hours, shifts, weekends, holidays,
and evenings will be required.
RECRUITMENT DATES On a continuous
basis.
SALARY $18.01 - $26.44 hourly /
$37,460 - $54,995 annualized.
DUTIES A Police Communication
Operator uses the 9-1-1 system, multi-button base radios,
and Computer Aided Dispatch system to receive, prioritize,
and process calls for police services. Employees are
expected to demonstrate extensive oral communication skills
and exercise sound judgment under pressure. Employees must
successfully complete the on-the-job training program within
12 months of hire. Vacancies are anticipated over the life
of this eligible (hiring) list.
EXPERIENCE
Requires one year of experience in public contact and
clerical work and the ability to type at a skilled rate of
speed (35 corrected wpm). Other combinations of experience
and education that meet the minimum requirements may be
substituted.
ALSO REQUIRED
All positions must meet polygraph and background
standards appropriate to non-sworn employees of the Police
Department. Working irregular hours, shifts,
weekends, holidays, and evenings will be required. NEW
HIRES MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK SECOND AND THIRD SHIFTS.
RESIDENCE Maricopa County
residency is required within 24 months after the date of
hire and must be maintained.
EVALUATION Based on written exam.
The written exam includes items on study guide material,
following oral directions, spelling, public relations, and
communication techniques. A passing score on the written
exam and certification of typing skills (35 WPM; see
attached for further info) is required to be placed on the
Eligible List. This eligible list will expire 12 months from
the date of certification.
